A weak cold front passed this morning bringing gusty northeasterly winds and some light showers. That same front is interacting with a trough that is lingering to the south of Bermuda. This resulted in showery light rain and mostly cloudy to overcast skies today. As a result of the cloudy and wet weather, temperatures stayed in the low to mid 60s for much of the day. The high today was near 71F around 9am; just before the cold front passed.
This front should sag further to the south of Bermuda and dissipate on Thursday. As that happens, a ridge of high pressure passes from west to east across Bermuda allowing winds to swing from northeast to southeast during the day remaining moderate in strength. This signals a return to temperatures above normal with an increase in humidity. There is a decent chance for showers on these southeasterly winds on Thursday as remnants of today’s front return northwards.
Thursday night, winds increase from moderate, reaching strong to near gale force and shift further from southeasterly to more southerly ahead of an approaching cold front. This front then passes Bermuda from west to east on Friday morning bringing gusty showers and thunderstorms. Winds swing from southerly or southwesterly ahead of and immediately along the cold front, to west-southwesterly behind the front and fall from near gale force to strong through the day on Friday with much improved weather.
Thursday: Expect showers and moderate(>15kts) to strong(>20kts) southeasterly winds. Temperatures and humidity increase through the day.
Thursday evening: Expect showers and strong to near gale force(<34kts) southerly winds. Temperatures and humidity remain high overnight.
Friday morning: Expect showers and thunderstorms with near gale force southerly to southwesterly winds. Likely gale force(>34kts) to near storm force(<48kts) gusts, especially in and around showers.
Friday: Expect improving skies with west-southewesterly winds decreasing from strong to moderate. Temperatures and humidity drop behind the front, may recover in any sunshine during afternoon.
The Bermuda Weather Service has issued a gale warning for Thursday night into Friday morning for the potential for gale force winds ahead of this cold front. Refer to the Bermuda Weather Service website for the latest official warnings and forecast products for Bermuda.
